NAME: Leo Tsukinaga
CANON: Ensemble Stars!
CANON REFERENCE: A general info page! There's not much on Leo's history there, so I'll summarize it below:- The background setting isn't too complicated (even if it is, at the same time. We had a Metaphorical War). Basic info: Yumenosaki, Idol Academy set in Modern day Japan! Students form Units. Leo's personal group is "Knights", which he formed with his best friend Izumi Sena in their second year.
- Speaking of second year, it was a mess!! A lot of infighting caused the creation of the aforementioned unit, as their once larger unit "Chess" split up into smaller fragments. At a certain point, he asks some of his old friends to choose between being his friend or using his songs — everyone he asks chooses the latter. His inability to really connect or understand people due to his Weird upbringing as a childhood genius composer meant he... definitely ended up as the target of a lot of animosity, and he definitely had a hand in perpetuating that!
- He breaks down and ditches school, staying locked up in his room for a while after going through a really bad breakup with Izumi. He later comes back to school during third year after travelling the world due to Getting Kidnapped (yes, I know).
- Challenges Knights and their newest member, Tsukasa, to a Judgment, which is essentially a PvP idol battle. The conditions for their duel are as follows: should he win, Knights will be disbanded. Should Tsukasa (and Knights, by extension) win, then he'd follow whatever they said without complaint.
- Lost because he's useless so spent the year being the Worst Leader Ever and picking up the pieces of the Emotional Mess he left behind. Knights did the hard work there!
- Miraculously graduates, passes on leadership of Knights to Tsukasa in a very emotional live, and becomes a pretty popular composer, even overseas. Bums around in Florence, Italy sometimes to harass Izumi.

QUESTIONNAIRE:
What does family mean to you and who do you consider a part of your family?Yikes! I'm preeee~tty terrible at words, y'know? I don't think I could really say properly how much family means, and even what it means! It's lotsa things? People who'll stick by ya even if you're not at your best. The people that make you your best! The ones you're born alongside, maybe, or the one you grow into! The people you're scared of disappointing the most, but also not scared of disappointing at all!
Ahhh, I told you I wouldn't make any sense here! But, mmmm, most importantly, I think family's what I think up of when I'm writing my best, most beautiful melodies. The faces that come up when I've gotta picture something positive! Mom, Dad, Ruka-tan, Mama, Knights... They all meant something to the Leo Tsukinaga of the past, helped prop up the Leo Tsukinaga of the present, and they're gonna be in the mind and heart of Leo Tsukinaga in the future!
Wow, that was cheesy! But I love 'em all, okay?
What is your favorite diversion? Hobbies, indulgences, vices? Would you put off important things for that diversion, or would you be more strict about how you spend your time and/or money? It's gotta be music! But don't just call it a diversion, or a hobby — that's insulting! Basic! Demeaning! But, sure, I'll give you indulgence and vice, wahahaha! That's accurate. Most of all, music's my life. Time, money, food — all of it's for making music!
It's why I have a hard time paying attention to stuff sometimes, if I get hit by a sudden bit of inspiration. Or if I'm getting into writing something with a little bam! Wham! Don't bother me when that happens. Even if I'm trying to be better about it, I'll still be mad! Unless what you've got for me is suuuu~per important, then I'll forgive ya after a bit. Ah, even then, you've still gotta let me finish the bar I'm working on!
Speaking of, I'm gonna write something right now...! ☆
What is the most frightening thing you've ever done? What part of you did it test the most?Getting back on stage after my second year, I guess...? Or maybe coming back at all. It's pretty scary having to face the people you love and disappointed, huh? It's like not only having to deal with failing, which sucks on it's own, but having to face the barren aftermath of a siege you lay on your own allies. Ah, not like there was anything barren in the end! After all, I'm the one who got turned upside down by just how lively they were, even after all this time, wahaha! Pretty funny, huh?
Something like that ends up testing every part of ya, though. The part of you looking at the future, 'cause you don't know how they'll react, what kind of things you'll be subjected to, if you'll end up hurt again... The part of you stuck in the past, 'cause you can't stop thinking about the stuff you did or the stuff you said, and how you could've done it better.
But it sure made me whole! Not that everything's perfect, but — I'm better than I am, and better than I was!
An enemy of your faction has asked for a meeting, proposing a truce of sorts to deal with a greater threat. On one hand, there is indeed a threat at hand, but on the other, this person double-crossing you is just as likely an outcome. Do you agree to the meeting? Do you trust them?Sure!
Worst case scenario, we're just right back where we started, right? And they're putting their head on the chopping block too, aren't they? How do they know I'm not gonna press the betray button first? Come at their back with a sword like a real jerk?! Stuff like this is messy, but I think sometimes you gotta take the risk to see it pay off...!
Thinking's not my strong point anyway! But I think it's a lot better than dwelling on "what if"s, and I'm a bigger fan of getting along. ♪
POWERS & ABILITIES: Leo's a regular human being that falls closer to the "questionably useless" scale of things. He's a toothpick that has no self-proclaimed upper body strength, but has a very impressive amount of stamina due to his activities as both an idol and professional shit disturber. He's... surprisingly agile, in an anime way, climbing up trees and? Jumping out of windows? In order to get away from people who want to make him be A Functional Person. Can't catch him, responsibility!
Besides that, he's pretty good at singing, dancing, and... bird calling. He's infuriatingly good at archery, in a "don't care if it hits, hits the bullseye anyway" kind of way, and he's got no respect at all for traditional form or decorum in general. He's also very skilled at making small observations about people, more so those he's grown close to, as he takes great care to pay attention to people's individuals needs and weaknesses.
His most notable talent is his ability as a genius composer, and it's what he's most known for back home.
SUITABILITY: I'm pretty sure we've committed at least one murder in Ensemble Stars Land.
But on a more serious note, despite being an idol canon, Ensemble Stars has... some surprisingly dark content. From cults, killing God, to kidnappings (one of which Leo participated in, yes) to frequent depictions of both metaphorical and sometimes actual violence, no one in the series can really say they haven't witnessed the darker parts of the Entertainment Industry, or, uh, life in general. If it exists, Enstars probably has it. Unfortunately.
While Leo himself is someone who is less inclined to hurt others due to the nature of his past, he's definitely no stranger to violence or negativity. One of his closer friends is one of the more ruthless, scarier members of the cast, and Leo himself recognizes that with little fanfare. We're talking someone who would shove a guy into a moshpit full of people who hate him and watch as he gets eaten alive... Not that Leo's hands are clean either, of course. He was fully prepared to do anything necessary to leverage his best friend to success during his second year, in a cringe display of extreme toxicity and co-dependence. He does know how it is to be fucked up, thanks.
FACTION SUITABILITY:SHUTEN
"Strength and will" goes along well with Knights' identity as a strong collaboration of individualistic, independent players that mesh together. Leo's definitely realistic enough to note that having power and the willpower to wield that strength goes a long way in creating a stable path that one can walk on, though he wouldn't go as far as to say that's the only thing you need.
He's also pretty honest, but in the one braincell kind of way.
TAMAMO
Leo is the definition of free spirit, and is surprisingly cunning and observant when he needs to be. Most notably, however, is the tale of Tenko-hime's mother. Leo had a pretty similar struggle with understanding and being understood, which stood in the way of both receiving and portraying his love in an appropriate way in the past. He's been able to "show his tails", so to speak, so he absolutely gets the value and freedom in a goal that seeks love and acceptance.
SUTOKU
He's got a pretty strong handle in theatre and entertainment, which are the Sutoku's specialties. As stated previously with the Shuten, Knights themselves have pretty strong and unique strengths that aren't hidden within the unit, and are instead made to stand out individually. And, uh, as one who wielded a title of power and found themselves somewhat unfitting and tired of it, he can definitely understand the value of "power requires wisdom". Leo's... also weird in that he makes a ton of religious references, but he isn't quite devout. His disconnect from material possessions is less a result of asceticism and more an obsession with artistic expression, but he does tend to ignore those things at times. Though, uh, sometimes he completely indulges so it's two extremes here.
ENMA
For all their Chaos, Knights has... a fair amount of systems to keep order within their unit, and Leo's fond of using them. It kind of goes in line with the infallible nature of the "system", given that the will of those that win using Knights' systems are assumed to be right. Because, by the rules, they are.
Of course, Leo himself is a gremlin and is terrible at following the rules, and he doesn't quite abide by the black and white viewpoints the Enma have. As much as he revels in the chaos, however, he knows that society has to have some form of stability in order to function, so it's not like he's off to call the Enma Useless. Just, uh, boring.
